Aviat A-1C Husky

Jim Taylor sells Aviat A-1C Husky STOL all-terrain machines out of McCreery Aviation Co., Inc. in McAllen, Texas. He arrived for the night at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport, Springfield, Illinois, July 26, 2013 and visited AeroKnow Museum. On the morning of the 27th, before departing for Oshkosh, he showed me his Husky.  Click on any for a larger view.

AviHus-eThe upswept wing tips are something new, replacing the turned down tips that have been popular on light planes for many years. Jim said they give better visibility in the turns since they don’t interfere with the pilot’s line of sight.

AviHus-hTo soften rough terrain these treadless softies present less drag to the airstream and don’t cost as much as the larger Tundra tires.

Note the Illinois State Capitol Building in the Springfield skyline just off the Husky’s nose, so to speak.
